Another High School Parade

I have now witnessed several of these parades. I don't know why they are formed or who is involved, but they seem to come out of nowhere and have cars and trucks loaded with students of all ages, with transportation provided by adults as well as students. The signs look like its a contest or campaign of some kind. If this occurred in my hometown of St. Paul, Mn. there would have to be liability releases, permits issued, and police escorts. These seemingly spontaneous parades look like they're lots more fun! See an earlier posted parade RIGHT HERE. Notice that pretty girls are always an integral part of the parade. Perhaps this one is celebrating International Women's Day March 8th in her own way!

What a beautiful girl. Love the colours - the sunlight on her face. Yes, pretty girls are always part of a parade! The men are usually the musicians and well covered up - although, come to think of it, we had those rather nifty Tahitians in the Menton parade a day or so ago!

I love the Latin culture that includes these parades.

Happy Women's Day Kate, hope it will be lovely and sunny as this one on the photo.
Your photo today is a perfect celebration for woman's day!

In many Latin American cultures the age of 15 for a female is the "coming out." Those that can afford it have a big celebration for the young woman, which includes a parade-like procession, with many horns blowing. I recently returned from a location where the young woman was taken to the best hotel in the city and a professional photographer photographed her in formal attire with the hotel's setting as a background.

Kate - it was Fabrizio's post and your comment on it that alerted me to the fact that it's Int. Women's Day. Thanks for that.

What is better than a pretty girl on top of a car, surrounded by balloons?

Mazatlan on parade. With the great weather you have, why not? You are right, this could never happen here in good ol' MinneSnowta.

I hear you, we too are anxious to be rid of this white stuff. There was a group of us, 14, who hit the Minneapolis skyway system on a photo-shoot. Mitchster was there too. this is a part of the Tips from the Top Floor photography podcast.

fun was had by all, many photos taken, and we only got kicked out 6 times by security. Apparantly, 14 middles aged camera geeks are a security threat. Talk of a May walkabout photoshoot. I'll keep you posted if you wish.

Enjoy your remaining time in the sun!

That is an awesome photo, Kate. It's perfectly framed and the colors are amazing. You caught the spirit of the celebration in the photo.

It's sad to think that in some parts, permits precede spontaneity.
Perhaps that why people travel; to see how other cultures conduct themselves.
It must be refreshing to spend time in such a community, full of vibrancy and celebration.
Perhaps the Land of 10000 Lakes will benefit from the wisdom of a returning ambassador one day !

She is a very lovely girl...and I'm guessing that my sons would approve of this parade tradition! :)

Lovely post, Kate. Thanks. I also enjoyed the men in the hats and your best guess as to what's going on in their lives.
