Ballet Folklorico

All the cultural events, musical reviews and skits we've seen here during our three month stay certainly has spoiled us. On Friday night we saw and loved traditional Mexican dances from six different areas of Mexico. Beautiful dancers, stunning costumes and great choreography.

Oh, how absolutely fabulous - and what photographs. A marvellous record of what was obviously a memorable evening. I'm so enjoying your stay in Mazatlan.

Excellent. The colors certainly evoke memories of Mexico. It used to be a beautiful place and I suspect, like everywhere else, it is built up and I would get lost.

Back in 1952 when I was there with friends from Tucson we watched bullfights, smelled burning rope for the first time (I didn't know what it was) and complained about it in the restaurant, and my friends brought back several fifths of scotch and rum, as I recall as it was cheaper than in Arizona.

Kate, I am very jealous. One of the things I love about Mexico is the variety of dances. I will never forget going to a performance of the Ballet Folklorico when it visited OH when I was in college. I went and just happened to sit next to an older Mexican woman who cried the entire time. She kept saying, "Ay, que lindo! Que lindo!" (How beautiful! How beautiful!). She was right.

What a treat to see so many of the dancers and costumes. It's exciting, isn't it! I love seeing the regional folk dances. My daughter used to dance in a baile folklorico group. I helped with costumes one year and remember hours and hours of ruffles and ribbons passing through the sewing machine! Those skirts in your photos are gorgeous.

Are you getting tired of paradise yet? You certainly sound like you are taking advantage of all the adventures you can there. Must be stimulating. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
