Meow Mixer
While living here this winter, Jim and I met a group of dedicated people who use their energy and money to round up stray cats, neuter then, foster them, and care for them in multiple ways. We decided to hang out with them and participated in a small way to their program. On Sunday afternoon and early evening the Meow Mixer, a benefit for these stray animals in Mazatlan, was held on a large patio with a spectacular view of the ocean. Part of the proceeds from the 150 people who attended will also be donated to Amigos de las Animales where mi esposo has been volunteering by walking dogs at the shelter during our stay here. The mixer was well-organized with food, beverages and a silent auction. During this coming week I will post more pictures so you too can enjoy our gala celebration. The group pictured above were the people who helped make it happen and who worked during the mixer. Jim took the picture, but he'll appear in other photos this week. Stay tuned!!

Love the title and they sure look like a fun group. Great shot.
Well the whole idea sounds great to me. From the cats to the animal shelter it is a worthy cause. It looks like a happy, fun group. The picture captures that group emotion.
Very cool, Kate. You have a nice way of bringing us along with you on your adventures.
In always take some time off from blogging during the weekends and then I have a lot to read on Mondays! I particularly liked to see the historical paintings! It's clear that you love the place ... and I can understand why!
Looks like fun, and a great cause.
Looking good Kate! Nice, happy people in that group. :)
BTW, I just read the comment you left on my blog and noticed that you used "colour" instead of "color," which I find very odd and because I just can't help it :), I searched your blog for favour, labour or flavour and only found the American spelling of those words, yet you always seem to use colour.
(I switched to using the American spelling for practical purposes when we moved down here, years ago.)
Did I already mention this to you, but I just wrote a piece about Save A Gato in San Juan. www.saveagato.com is their website. There is a huge feral cat population in San Juan, and the thinking is that most of the cats are descendants of the cats brought over by the Spanish in the 15-16th centuries.
She's got you by the leg, Kate, and it looks as though you are blessing her. Thanks for blessing me as well, with the Irish blessing today. It feels good.
Love the smiles on everyone's face. And it is so nice that you are in the photo. So often the photographer is never photographed.
Fabulous shot of a fabulous group of fabulous people!!
Looks like fun and all for a good cause! Thanks for your comment today. Where is the poem from? I've never heard it before and thought it was lovely. Thanks again :)
Kate, there is an interesting cat hugging your leg in that photo. :-)
Good job for a good cause.
Looks like everyone is having fun. Any shots of the rescued cats?
I wish I could've been there - great cause and a fun group of people!
Thanks for your Irish Blessing. Is St. Paddy's celebrated in Mazatlan?
What a brilliant idea, Kate. These are my kind of people. I've been feeding stray cats outside my front door for years! I've never tried to catch them but try to tame them a little anyway so that if someone else tries to catch them, they won't be bitten quite so badly! I have 5 cats - one came to me as a bedraggled, injured and malnourished kitten - she is now a rather plump cat with a pronounced limp - very much a member of the family. My latest projects are Snuffly - a beautiful young tomcat - also putting on weight and his coat is beginning to shine but he still bites me if I stroke him for too long. The other is a much older tabby I call "one ear" for obvious reasons. "Pussypuss" came to eat every night for years but disappeared about 4 months ago. "Snuffly" is her kitten - the one she used to bring to our garden to sleep during the day; while she disappeared. Because they are wild, I could never catch him as a kitten. I'm certain that One Ear is Snuffly's father - there are similarities but Pussypuss was an American shorthair - black on top and white underneath. Snuffly is a medium grey colour on top and white underneath. (A tale in the life of the Benauts)
My "Kitty" is a rescued stray.
I applaud what you & the group are doing for the cats. (And to Chris with the effort in Puerto Rico, where there seems to be too much cruelty to animals news lately.)
Helpful info. Fortunate me I discovered your web site by chance, and I am shocked why this coincidence did not happened in advance!
I bookmarked it.
