This is where I usually spend my Saturdays from 10am 'til 2 pm: checking in or out books, shelving books, and various other tasks involved in volunteering. All the books have been donated by individuals, bookstores, and other libraries. Basic operating expenses (rent, utilities, and supplies) are supported by a nominal annual membership fee. The entire staff is volunteers directed by a year-long resident who has done marvelous work in organizing the materials and training the volunteers. A labor of love! Every community should be so lucky as to have a place like this! It's fun to volunteer because then you meet lots of interesting people who use the library, either on a short-term or long-term basis.

What a great library. Fabulous facility. Is this used by Mexicans who are wanting to learn/improve their English too - or is it just for ex-pats and English-speaking visitors?
Of course, this is nice, but shouldn't you look for Spanish books?
Sounds like a great idea, Kate. For old folks, like me and Patty, it would be a place to go in the winter if we could get out of the house. We do have a good local branch library where we go often as we read.
I am a talker, not sure I would do well in a library....shhhhhh
Very cool! At first, I was surprised to see the word "library" on a building in a post from Mazatlan. Hmmmm. There must be a large number of English-speaking people there!
Tee hee. I'm a library volunteer too -- but in an English-speaking province. ;-)

What a great project to be involved in. I'm involved with my local Community Centre organising events like shows, quiz nights, sales etc. Yesterday I joined the committee as a Trustee. I think its really important for people to involve themselves with local projects. You can donate as much or as little time as you can spare and its so rewarding. Carry on the good work :)

Kate: I have hundreds of science and technology magazines filling every corner in my house. They are mainly spanish written magazines. Do you think they can use them at the library? If so, please answer to me either a your blog site or mine. Don't take too long to reply.

Then go outside to read your book - it looks like a very nice spot to sit & read or people-watch.
