English Reading Library
This is where I usually spend my Saturdays from 10am 'til 2 pm: checking in or out books, shelving books, and various other tasks involved in volunteering. All the books have been donated by individuals, bookstores, and other libraries. Basic operating expenses (rent, utilities, and supplies) are supported by a nominal annual membership fee. The entire staff is volunteers directed by a year-long resident who has done marvelous work in organizing the materials and training the volunteers. A labor of love! Every community should be so lucky as to have a place like this! It's fun to volunteer because then you meet lots of interesting people who use the library, either on a short-term or long-term basis.

Love the photos! You are definitely a blessing to the community.
That's a lovely, inviting place, even without the fine-sounding, helpful folks one would encounter there. Thanks for the photos.
WOW ... so colorful for a library. Is it fun to work there?
i discovered now your photos ..very bnice shots...
i want to work in the library as well...:)
how did you make it?i mean you opened the biblioteca or ??just curiosity...
i love the green wall and the red shelves :)
Great place to spent the time!
That`s marvelous thing to you! You are inside the community and not just a tourist.
And so important work!
Lovely days to you there in warm Mexico!
What a great library. Fabulous facility. Is this used by Mexicans who are wanting to learn/improve their English too - or is it just for ex-pats and English-speaking visitors?
Of course, this is nice, but shouldn't you look for Spanish books?
Sounds like a great idea, Kate. For old folks, like me and Patty, it would be a place to go in the winter if we could get out of the house. We do have a good local branch library where we go often as we read.
I am a talker, not sure I would do well in a library....shhhhhh
Very cool! At first, I was surprised to see the word "library" on a building in a post from Mazatlan. Hmmmm. There must be a large number of English-speaking people there!
Tee hee. I'm a library volunteer too -- but in an English-speaking province. ;-)
Kate, This seems a very inviting setting. Don't you love it when you find places that people have come together and worked hard to make happen!

Oh i LOVE libraries! One of my favorite places to spend time!!
How nice that you volunteer here!!
What a great project to be involved in. I'm involved with my local Community Centre organising events like shows, quiz nights, sales etc. Yesterday I joined the committee as a Trustee. I think its really important for people to involve themselves with local projects. You can donate as much or as little time as you can spare and its so rewarding. Carry on the good work :)
That looks like a wonderful place to volunteer. Lots of books in a colorful atmosphere. Great community involvement.
Kate: I have hundreds of science and technology magazines filling every corner in my house. They are mainly spanish written magazines. Do you think they can use them at the library? If so, please answer to me either a your blog site or mine. Don't take too long to reply.
bloglogger, Magazines typically are not the kinds of donations that are in the library, but I'll check with the woman who keeps it all organized and then I'll email you with her response. Thanks for the message!
I love the photos, Kate. The red of the bookshelves, the green walls, & bright lights - looks like a great spot.
Then go outside to read your book - it looks like a very nice spot to sit & read or people-watch.
what is the address of this wonderful place?
or, if no address is available, how do we find it?
