Mime

Even though the temperatures in this fair city have been at an uncommon low for the season (lowest in 50 years!), the traditional Saturday night activity at Plaza Machado was lively. Vendors put up tables to sell their wares while patrons eat at the restaurants lining the Plaza and people stroll around the perimeter of the area. Shops are open, musicians play at outdoor cafes, and entertainers of various stripes entertain the crowd, among whom were three mimes. Here's one of them; the other two had more traditional and elaborate costumes, but I liked this one because s/he looked like the kid next door, trying to earn a buck...er...a peso!

What a banner, Kate! Wow, that is sunny!
I like the way this kid is "made up", too. Interesting place :)

It is a nice photo Kate. I see a lot of these, especially in gold, bronze and tin or silver colors. I often wonder who scrubs them down when they decide to be normal again.

You will be interested in that it is "0" degrees here this morning and there is wind too so the wind chill is way down there.

Fascinating photo. Sometimes I find these mime artists a little scary - silly I'm sure. Like this one. He's v good.

He looks like a statue! Wow!

Actually, his make-up looks more scary than mime-y. He would fit nicely in a zombie movie.

To respond to your answer, no I won't be watching the football game today eventhough that is what everyone is talking about.

Great picture, Kate. Wish we were already there. Tried to find a place to rent before our Feb 19 arrival date but no luck. We need to plan better for 2009.

oh I love places like that, and you have to admire the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of guys like this.

I seen something similar to this in Vegas & Hawaii where these guys paint themselves gold color and stand still until someone gives them money (usually a buck).
