El Centro Vendor

I've been returning to this woman's fruit and vegetable stand and believe I'll probably buy almost exclusively from her in the future. I was originally attracted to her because of her sweet smile and willingness to pose for a photograph, but I also think that she has good produce. Today she wanted to know the whereabouts of my "compañero." Next time I'll have to bring Jaime along with me and tell her that my compañero is mi esposo.

Oh, but "compañero" also means "esposo/marido" and so does "media naranja" (half orange). :)

She does have a sweet smile.

Oh wow! fabrizio came over with the same thing that brought me here too.

Oh Kate, you really do make our day. KLDP says so. Come by and bring a Frida Kahlo bag with you :)

She must have been a beauty in her youth and still has a handsome face with a twinkle in her eye. You are right the produce looks pretty in the background - but your choice of vendor is very female :) I still buy beer because of the label.

Splendid post. Glad you go back to the same lady. You are probably discussed at her home at night. You probably make her day.

Excellent portrait, Kate! How is the produce there? I've been looking for some blood oranges, but Cud and Rainbow does not carry them. (I love blood oranges)

Congrats on leaving this weather behind. Well deserved as you did your time. I can't but feel a bit green with envy though. I have a lot of time left in my sentence in the Cubicle Farm, Cell 2A Cell Block A. ;)

Great shot; the scale in the foreground & the slightly out-of-focus lady. Nice arrangement :)
She has a very sweet look about her.

She has such a nice open face, I so agree. it's nice to buy regularly from the same person. The more you do this, the better produce you get and if anything is ever not quite right, the person will always change or replace it. And anyway isn't it nice to develop a rapport - almost friendship - when we shop etc. I'm sure that must be a natural way of doing things in Mexico.

She DOES have a sweet smile and a beautiful, kind face.

Like you, I tend to be very loyal to people or places where I spend my money because either they are really nice or I want to support the local (neighborhood) economy.

isn't this kind of personalised shopping great, compared to the impersonal supermarkets in big 1st world cities where you can shop for years and no-one has a clue who you are?!
