There is a small group of expats in Mazatlán, México who trap abandoned street and feral cats, take each to a local vet for health care and neutering after which they release the animals. Their ears are marked for identification. Like many cities, these undomesticated cats breed and produce many animals that continue the cycle. Too often the cats suffer diseases and crippling accidents but, if they're lucky, they are trapped and given a new lease on life by members of this group. I have participated with this group and went along for a photo shoot. Camera Critters-Cat Collage

I currently feed a couple of feral cats. The local SPCA has spayed them for free.
We rescued our cat from living wild in a field. He looks like the cat in the bottom left. This is great.

I've read about this kind of volunteer group in another city, too, Kate.
My daughter took care of 11 wild cats like this and so far 7 have stayed for free room and board.

We had a cat show up on our porch a few years ago. Everyone told me, DO NOT FEED IT. You can guess what I did...fed it. We had it neutered and now it gets shots every year.
