Oaxaca Rugs

Once a year a friend of mine brings Oaxaca weavers to Canucks in Mazatlan to sell their beautiful weavings. The woman I featured yesterday is one of the artisans. I bought a purse for myself and one for my daughter's birthday. Because of the airline's luggage weight restrictions, I can't bring home one of these beautiful rugs. Perhaps one of these days we'll drive so I can load up the car with this kind of treasures!!

Those are really nice looking rugs, Kate. I would think you could wrap one around your waist or something. It might be worth it to try. LOL

They are so nice and I suppose made out of local wool or something.

Oh I couldn't resist, Kate. They are so beautiful. Gorgeous colours and design - so now we know what yesterday's lady was in Mazatlan for. That was a lovely portrait.

We managed to put a rug from Oaxaca in our suitcases a few years ago. It was worth it. We plan to visit Mazatlan in May. What can we expect during that time of year?

Re. Rossiter post: Since we've never been here in May, I can't answer your question. Google Mazatlan and you'll find lots of sites with tourist info. Most snowbirds leave at the beginning of April, and it would start warming up in May, I imagine. Check my sidebar for more Mexico blogging sites and perhaps year-round residents would be able to answer you question. Check "Countdown Mexico" for a fulltime resident, and I think that Nancy would be willing to give you some tips.

This is a lovely photo and I truly admire the work the weavers do. I want to just reach out and touch.

Kate, I may have a comment on here twice, but it is well worth commenting that the photo is wonderful and I truly admire the weavers.

I bought a rug from this family at their home and workshop in Oaxaca, and it is beautiful! They truly are artists. Here is a website that gives a lot of info on the Santiago family and contact info: http://www.tomzap.com/casasantiago.html

These are beautiful. I love the colors. I see these rugs during my MX travels, but also didn't know how to get them home.

These are just gorgeous! I allways like to travel light, but couldn't resist buying one in Oaxaca and had to carry it the rest of the journey... It was worth it, as I didn't see another one like that until I left Mexico! :-)
