Home Sweet Home
Because of the deterioration of El Centro in the 20th Century, and despite recent efforts of new home owners to restore the historical buildings, there are still many structures that are in need of TLC (and lots of renovation effort!). The house in the top photo has captured my imagination. Despite its current neglected condition (broken shutters and windows, crumbling cement, rusted iron work, trashed interior, and garbage-strewn courtyard), I love the building! If only I had been able to see it and visit it at the turn of the century! I seldom miss an opportunity to walk by and wonder at its past glory. If I ever win the lottery, my first purchase and effort will be to restore lovingly this place, and y'all will be invited to visit!!
“We carry our homes within us which enables us to fly.”

une belle vieille maison. elle nous raconte une histoire.
a beautiful old house. it tells a story.
I think we all have similar illusions -- I know I have though not so much anymore. Who lived there and what was their lives like -- questions I have asked and ghosts I never get to see. Let me know if you do win the lottery, I might ask you to be one of your first stimulus recipients.
There was a program on 60 Minutes last night about Mexico. I hesitate to ask if you saw it. It is frightening.
I bet it could be beautiful again.
just a bit of work & it wud looks beautiful....
I can see why you love it. It has a lot of character - something that a lot of new homes just don't have.
Greetings from still snowing Finland!
I can see, why you are dreaming about this house, it seems have been very charming building.
Happy, healthy days to you there in the sun, Kate!
Lovely house, hope they will restore it soon.
It'a always sad to see such stately old buildings in such disrepair. It must have been quite a showplace when it was built.
It is a really a grand old house. Interesting that the main doorway is an arch and different from the other doors/windows.
That's exactly the sort of building I love. The proportions are so elegant and graceful..yyou're right, it deserves better..
Great shot! That building really stirs the imagination!
I'll be there. Its so sad to see such majestic ladies in disrepair.
I really hope you will win! Looking forward to the invitiation!
