Leather Art

Nid Art, an arts and craft store on the edge of the Plaza Machado, sells wall hangings of all different sizes, made of leather from cows, pigs, ostriches, and other animals. Tomorrow I will post one or more of the masks they make which seem to be quite popular. The artists are a family that live on the premises and who create their art forms in the studio behind the showroom, which has limited hours so that they can have time to make their creations.

Very interesting post, this leather art are really great, I can't imagine its size, are they large?

Carraol, Yes, they are very interesting pieces. They vary in size from small pins to large custom ordered pieces that measure many feet high and wide. I bought a mermaid for my bathroom that's about 4 inches by 10 inches. A friend ordered a mermaid for her foyer that is really quite large.

Beautifully done. Also scrolled down to the sand sculpture. So much wonderful art -- now I know why people love to visit Mexico.

Yes it's very interesting and it reminds me to those hand made sculpture on wood

How interesting to compare the two photos from today and yesterday. This leather art is gorgeous, but it makes me sad that they had to skin animals to make it. I'm a meat eater though. Hmm.

Wow! That's something really unique and they look amazing. They look like they're made out of stone.

This is amazing artwork. I have a camel made from leather. It is about 12 inches tall. I had never seen leather used this way before but it really looks nice.

I used to do a lot of wood sculpture. But that was ages ago.

That's leather? Amazing! I can only imagine how difficult it must be to work it into such intricate pieces of art.

I have never seen leather used in a sculpture that way before. I would love a pin made that way. A tiny piece of intricate art.
You have captured the sculptures nicely.

I have enjoyed your photos of art. Nudes done in an artistic fashion are always enjoyable.

Interesting - the leather sculptures are completely new to me. I guess I might be the only one who feels this way, but I think there's something disturbing about a creature whose flesh is made from another's skin.

I dunno. Maybe I saw "Silence of the Lambs" too many times, but when I look at those figures, I hear "It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."
