Leather Mask

As promised yesterday, here is a sample of one of the many leather masks I've seen here in Mazatlan and in other cities, both large and small, in Mexico.

I love the mask. You a making some wonderful discoveries. Thanks for sharing :)

I haven't posted to the Wildlife Safari blog for awhile. I just never seem to have as much time lately and decided I need to concentrate on one blog at a time. Thanks for asking about it.

Wow, this mask is really something. In Mexico each ethnic group has its own kind of masks for celebrations, rituals & dance, mostly made of painted wood. Thanks for share this one with us.

Very interesting series about leather work, I'm really enjoying it.

PS - do you really need comment moderation PLUS word verification?

Natalie, Thanks for the head's up--I didn't realize that I had both!

These kind of leather works were new to me, thanks for showing them.

Kate are these masks purely decorative, or can they (for whatever reason) be worn?

I love it! Do you know what it's made of?

Chris and Deb, The only masks I've seen are purely decorative. If you aren't familiar with this artist, google Guadalajara "artist Alejandro Flores" who makes clay and porcelain masks, one of which I have purchased several years ago. It fooled my then 3-yr-old nieta who asked me to "put it on!!"

Edwin, it's leather, but I don't know what animal skin was used for this one.

Beautiful leather masks. Quite extraordinary. I missed the sand sculpture and just found the posting. Those are just wondrous too.

Love your choices of subject.
