Look Closely

Mazatlan has some areas with very steep hills. While carefully navigating downward on one of the steepest inclines on Calle Pedregoso, my eye caught this small memorial tucked away and almost hidden on the side of the street. I stared at the very faded photo of a young boy on the cross. I paused for sometime, thinking about this child and the way he might have died on the hill.

Hi Kate, great post! In Mexico you can see a lot of these kind of memorials on roads and streets of cities, mostly killed in car accidents.

It is so beautiful and so sad. A fitting tribute to that child.

I agree with other commentators, sad and beautiful.

You are careful over there and get a wonderful weekend!

This is so sad. In France we see flowers, sometimes a Madonna at the place a person died. I've never seen a cross like this - it's beautifully done.

That is a lovely tribute and so sad too. It does make one think and wonder.
I have not heard from Faye at all. I actually left another message yesterday on her blog. I hope we hear something soon. The long silence has me concerned.

Very sad -- the cross with the boy probably nobody remembers.

What a beautiful memorial with such a sad story, undoubtedly.

Those memorials are always sad, especially when they are for children.

Must have been heart breaking for his parents. How tragic!

..... and how much love went into the creation of this little monument to him, from those left behind.

It's sad and tender in the same time as tender and delicate is your thought
